Well after a few chats on messenger and cross referencing some sources I have some nice new news about Yahoo! Messenger integration. Firstly a new beta for Yahoo! Messenger has been released, surprisingly (not really) on the same day as the official release of Windows Live Messenger. Looks like integration is happening with both of these released versions. In Yahoo! Messenger you can now add MSN Messenger and Windows Live Messenger contacts, wooohoo. However I am not 100% sure if the feature is working yet or of any limitations.

There was disappointing news when it was revealed the official release of Windows Live Messenger would not have Yahoo! Messenger integration, but it was never meant to happen from the beginning. It originally was said to be released in the 2nd quarter of 2006, which still is possible. Maybe you will be talking to your Yahoo! buddies in just a few months or sooner.

A new load of Windows Live Butterflies have been picked today (luckily swines), who get exclusive news, builds and invitations to join the team every year. Apparently with these new testers a new beta will be starting soon (already, oh my). Hopefully we will see some more updates on Yahoo! Messenger integration, but for now this is all I could dish up.

Meanwhile, over on the "Windows Live Services" website there is a bit more information just saying that it is coming soon, and a screenshot showing that your Yahoo! Messenger contacts will have a little "Y!" icon under their display picture (currently the default one for everyone).

More information about the WLM side of the integration at the official site

You have to register your ym account for beta testing and you also have to register your msn account for beta testing for this to work.

plus you need ym 8.x and wlc 8.x for this to work.

I've tested this using my accounts and my friends account and it works.

I downloaded and installed the new 8 of yahoo yesterday, and when I add a friend on mine it says "Windows LSC" which is Windows Live Communications Service. And on sites and here it says "Windows Live (MSN)".. lol

i've tested this myself, and no, you can't communicate between them as of yet.

to test this i added myself to my yahoo account and sent messages across to my msn account and.. well nothing. so no, its not in the current released versions. Yahoo intercommunication will be added in a coming version
