Vista Live Messenger beta released!

In early August I told you about a upcoming skin for Windows Live Messenger called Vista Live Messenger. The skin was designed to make Windows Live Messenger look and feel like the Windows Vista Aero theme, a popular concept for many skinners now.

A few hours ago a beta was released to hopefully gather opinions for the finishing touches to the skin. It looks great and hopefully you will like it to. Of course talking about a design is useless, you have to try it for yourself.

Note: The skin does not contain an installer at the moment. You simply have to extract the archive, copy and paste msgsres.dll into C://Program Files/MSN Messenger overwriting the current file. Make sure you close Windows Live Messenger down first and make a backup of the old msgsres.dll file beforehand, just in case you want to remove the skin.

It doesn't work. Its cause I have version 8.1 and not version 8.0! So it only works with version 8.0 like ItchyFlakes said.

I got a special problem, I do everything by the rules, but when I start Messenger my skin looks like it has been cut. My avatar is split in half and the halfs are switched up and down. Also when I log in, all my contasts are gone and all the information about them, I guess I just can' see them. When I backup, everything goes back to normal.

For people who got problem installing the skin:
1- Close msn messenger
2- Copy and rename the dll in your msm messenger folder, making a backup of your old msgsres.dll file.
3- If its not working, check your processes (ctrl-alt-del) and (task manager) and kill msnmsg process.
4- after its working for me.

sik skin, nice job guys, i was just reading nathans comment, and at first, the same thing happend to me, the installer thing would show up, and nothing would happen, in this case, u have to go into the MSN messenger folder, in prgram files, and u will see 2 files, one called msnvista.dll, the one that u dowloaded from here, and pasted it in the mesenger folder, and u will relise their is also a msgsres.dll file as well, so what i did was cut that file, pasted it in another folder, and renamed the vista.dll file msgsres.dll, and it worked, hope i helped

i replaced tht file tht it said 2 replace...
i opened my windows live messenger, and it just said 'Windows Installer' thn closed windows live messenger down.. i went back in to windows live messenger, and i dont hav the cool skin??

Hi, i've just installed this skin on a friends computer, but now when i want to install it on my own, my msn won't startup when i use the vista msgsres.dll - but if i then change back to the original msgsres.dll it will startup just fine as usual. How do i fix this?

the only thing dat i didnt lyk in this is that wen u r viewing ur contacts at full screen wiv the display pics showing, the name n personal info r centered, overall its pretty neat tho

Yup, I've got noted of this skin by Stian himself, I wanted to report Abso earlier but he was AFK.

This skin is great, however some improvements can still be done before it hits the final release. (e.g.: contact list tabs and DP shine)
