Update: FAKE: Windows Live Messenger 8.2?

Well here is some confusion for you, I just received a nice message with a strange screenshot from Messenger fanatic SonicSam. He didn't say much but the image he sent me sure did, it appears Windows Live Messenger will soon have polygamy integrated into it but nothing like your usual patch does. All your accounts are listed in one window, neatly and organised and damn does it look good.

But wait, this is not just a new exclusive feature we have received, oh no. It is rumored to appear in Windows Live Messenger 8.2. So does this mean there are two versions under the works? Does this mean Messenger will not have such big jumps in version numbers from now on (we have had very big leaps e.g. 6.2 to 7.0)? Does this mean Microsoft have gone mad and started updating an unfinished software? Who knows, all I know is look at the screenshot and speculate for yourself.

I don't know what's really going on with this, but it looks real to me anyway and if it is, it is a great new feature.

Edit: It has been confirmed as fake, something which a lot of people plotted to do on msghelp's IRC. It looked real enough to me, then again I thought the Windows Live Messenger designs were fake, I just guess I have to place my head in the sand and congratulate whoever managed to pull this off.

I don't like. I know that screenshot would just be a beta (if it's real) but the interface looks rubbish (even though there is a new icon with two [old style] Messenger buddys which could also be something to do with this feature) and there are many issues, as Matti said, with integrating this type of feature.rnrnI have to say it's a thumbs down from me (and there are many flaws with the screenshot ...).

It seems like Microsoft is really stealing the features of Messenger Plus! (Live). First, they came up with chat logging where MP! users already could do that since the very first version. Then, they added Quick Names. And now, they are going to implement polygamy?

Okay, I agree: it looks lots better than a normal patch would do. But I wonder what name/personal message/status/display picture/... would appear in the top area of the contact list? And when you want to save/import contact lists? ^o)

Way to go, Microsoft!
