Stop your contacts seeing you type with StuffPlug

I'm going to admit something here, something I'm not proud of ... I type fast on Messenger. OK, it may not be a big deal, but I do it because I don't want to come off as one of those slow push key typers to my contacts. Now because of this I often make a load of spelling and grammar errors. I've also gotten into the habit of doing this when writing essays or even blog posts (Word has picked up four spelling mistakes from the last few sentences I just typed, can you guess what they are?).

So I was very happy when I came across a little, yet very effective feature of StuffPlug 3, an add-on for Windows Live Messenger. It allows you to stop the display of the user is typing a message notification so your contacts cannot see if you're typing to them. This is something people may find useful if they don't want their contacts to know they were once typing a message to them.

It may not be a big feature, but some of you may want to know about it.

Download StuffPlug from the official website

segosa, in some ways I agree with you but I hate the fact I know my contact knows I'm typing a message to them. If I see in the corner of my eye someone is writing a lengthy message to me I get curious. Then when they seem to delete it and don't send it I begin to think they had something important to tell me. I guess I don't want people to think the same crazy way I do when I write to them

People don't sit staring at your conversation window timing how long you take to type your message and then calculating approximately how many words per minute you were typing. Unless you type like a snail (which I'm sure you don't), no one cares.

Also, disabling the TypingUser packets is annoying as hell as it's used by everyone to know if someone's even bothering to reply to you. It's generally understood if you don't see the packets, someone isn't typing a message (with exceptions made for the fact that the connection is closed a minute later and you won't see TypingUser packets until it's reconnected), and it's relied on quite a bit.

To be fair I never knew about the script. I stumbled upon this little tweak and thought people may be interested in it. What I like about Stuffplug is all the little, interesting tweaks it provides for Messenger.

Doesn't work for WLM 8.5, although SP3 also isn't unless you do the work around posted by Nitemare.

I just thought you should realise that this has been done through a Plus! script for quite a while. Take a look at TypingInvisible for the thread on msghelp.net or in the scripts database.
