i'm Initiative update

For this year's Blog Action Day, with the theme of poverty, I thought I'd give a reminder about Microsoft's i'm Inititive.

With the slogan "i'm making a difference", so far the scheme has raised nearly $1.9 million for various good causes, hoping to make a real difference to people all over the world. If you haven't heard of the initiative before then here's an explanation of how it works (and it really is this simple!):

Every time you use Windows Live Messenger or Windows Live Hotmail Microsoft shares a portion of the program's advertising revenue with an organization of your choice from a selection of some of the world's most effective organizations dedicated to social causes. We've set no cap on the amount we'll donate to each organization. The sky's the limit. And it's free.

i'm is about making a difference. Not in a huge expensive way, not in a time-consuming way. But in a simple, effective way.

It's easy to participate, although currently only if you live in the US: if you don't then get any friends or family that do to join in. Just by adding a special emoticon in your Messenger display name or an image in your Hotmail signature you can help raise money for at least one of ten different organisations involved.

So what are you waiting for? Get involved today and raise money for good social causes worldwide.
