Microsoft have begun emailing its 100+ million users, notifying them to switch over to Skype, which it acquired in 2010. Those of you who currently use Windows Live Messenger will still be able to chat to your Messenger friends, but now, only by using Skype.
Users in mainland China will be able to use Windows Live Messenger for the foreseeable future.
The move is widely seen as a positive step by Microsoft, who have attempted to make VoIP calls over mobile more ubiquitous, making Messenger seem outdated. It is also true development of the classic IM client has been non-existent over the past couple of years.
We at Messenger Stuff, will of course, miss you Messenger. Expect our last post close to the big day.
