Sharing Folders: Not working for you?

When Windows Live Messenger first became known about, a big new feature was present in it. A feature, that I personally never use and originally found it a nuisance when sending files to people. Sharing Folders is a great new feature, I will give it that, but I never use it and boy do the Windows Live Messenger team love talking about it. On MessengerSays, their official blog they must of mentioned this feature who knows many times, they must be really proud of it.

But this post is not a bitch at sharing folders, no. Like I said, it is a great feature and probably one of the least buggiest ones we have seen in a long time. Anyway, the team's most recent post was about this feature and how it will only work where the primary portion is formatted with the NFTS file system. There is no major reason for it, but it was mentioned that the feature relies on the rich functionality that NFTS gives. So if your system is formatted in FAT32 or anything other than NFTS, you need to follow these following steps:
  • Click Start, and then click Run.
  • Type cmd, and then click OK.
  • Type convert c: /FS:NTFS.
  • Restart your computer.

Please remember this is for advanced users. Formatting changes your system a lot and you may prefer how FAT32 etc handles your files. On the plus side, NFTS file system is much preferred and I recommend you use it anyway. So if sharing folders does not work for you, well, hum ... formatting your computer could be the best solution. Hey that is what Microsoft says.
