June launch for Windows Live Messenger?

Microsoft news site Bink.nu has reported that, along with Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Messenger is expected to be released to the public in June this year.

They have also told us some more details about the Windows Live Mail release, stating that it "will offer a 2GB storage" as the beta currently does. They also mentioned that "it will also be possible to get you Live Mail in to Outlook but that will cost 19 Euro a year".

Whilst previous reports have suggested a 'late spring' release for Windows Live Messenger, we'll still have to wait and see.

UPDATE:
There is also further "confirmation" of a June launch on the product page for the Uniden WIN1200A, one of the first Windows Live Messenger phones, where it says it will be "AVAILABLE END OF JUNE 2006".

Looks like that news yesterday has come right into our very hands. That's right that new 683 build of Windows Live Messenger has been leaked! The news really is the same as posted by the andyman, but I have some views of my own to.

First beware this is an internal build and believe me the installer was very shaky, it took ages to install and some things crashed when doing so, so be extra cautious with this build. But I bet half of you don't even care about that.

The name of Windows Live Messenger has finally been placed everywhere, no more "Messenger Beta" guys and the new GUI we saw is there are working my eyes like magic. Yet, this build lags my system a lot, more than the 566 build, but I think a lot of bugs have been tackled and fixed, just needs some fine tweaking now and I think Windows Live Messenger is ready for public release.

Yet, MSN Messenger is still where all the data is stored for use and this build still installs in the MSN Messenger directory. Looks like it is hard to fully get rid of the MSN Messenger trademark. But don't let me speak for you, download and install for yourself, I think you will enjoy this build much better.

(Please note: You download and install any leaked builds or downloads we offer you at your own risk. We cannot and will not take responsibilty for any damages caused by dowloading or installing this build or anything else from this site or any mirrors given. Microsoft does not support or endorse downloading or using an unofficial releases/builds of any software.)

A blogger called Michael Sun has posted some screenshots of a new internal build of Windows Live Messenger labelled 8.0.0683.00_Branches on his blog. These screenshots show that the screenshots that were leaked at the beginning of this month/end of last month were real and that new features are coming to Windows Live Messenger.

The 'dashboard' space at the top of the contact list has changed again (from the leaked screenshots too) and now includes a new Windows Live Mail/Hotmail icon, a new Sharing Folders icon, a new (Windows Live?) Spaces icon, a new colourisation icon, and two completely new icons. The first is a picture of a calendar and is thought to either link to a new service (possibly Windows Live Calendar or the calendar feature in Windows Live Mail) or could link to the MSN Today page which has reappeared in this version, although it was thought that it was going to be replaced by Windows Live Today (possibly featuring a calendar) in future builds which has been confirmed to link to the new Windows Live Today page which has replaced MSN Today which was available in previous versions of MSN Messenger - the option as to whether this page pops-up when you sign in has appeared again too. The other new icon is a telephone which is beleived to open the Windows Live Call part of messenger. This is known to be in the new internal build and there are several new features to tie in with it too.

The new features/options are found in the options dialog and are Show me as 'In a Call' when I'm in a Windows Live Call (is the 'In a Call' a new status to replace 'On The Phone'?) and new sound options for the events of 'Outgoing Phone Ring' and Voice Call'.

Other new options include Show shadows and animation and the chance to choose a default Window Color. There is also an option whether to Show "contact says:" before every message.

The installer of this build is also new and features the option of enabling the Windows Live Sign-in Assistant which ties in with the new Windows Live ID (the replacement of the Microsoft Passport Network) and allows you to "see all your Windows Live ID accounts at sign-in with Internet Explorer". The other new setup feature is the option of integration with the Rhapsody music service from Real Networks (the makers of Real Player) as a result of the court settlement last year between them and Microsoft. Also the general program icon (as shown on the desktop etc) has also changed again.

Please be aware that this build is still internal and has not been leaked, although an April refresh build of Windows Live Messenger is expected soon! However, there is also news of expected features in later new versions - which include being able to encrypt your contact list when it is stored on your computer*, the appearance of Windows Live Today (as mentioned above), the interoperability with Yahoo! Messenger contacts, and the beginning of the use/development of Windows Live Messenger Add-Ins.

* Update: It has been confirmed that contact encryption is available in this build under the option Encrypt contact list data so that it is not accessible outside of Windows Live Messenger.

Messenger Plus! Live ... public beta?

Grab your hats guys I just read some exciting news. Messenger Plus! Live I know you all want it, want it bad, and unless you are tester you can't have it. But in the last half hour or so Patchou, the creator of this amazing program said that 2 weeks in May he cannot work on the program.

So ... Patchou may release a public beta of Messenger Plus! Live and delay the official release for a later date. It was expected about 2 weeks after Windows Live Messenger was offically released. This is not the first time, last year 3.40 public beta of Messenger Plus! was released because Patchou went on a week trip to Paris, to find out more about MSN Messenger.

Yet, he has confirmed nothing yet, but if you want it, it could be hopeful news. For me, well I already have the beta and I do think it is coming to a good stage for release, yet I do think people's suggestions are important and this could make the official release even better. Remember nothing yet is confirmed.

Woops, it seems someone at Microsoft sat on the big bad red button, which allowed everyone to sign into Windows Live Messenger on any .net passport. When this was discovered they soon removed it, about a day too late. However, despite the mishap Windows Live Messenger is now public ... yes, no lies.

However, the team still want you to sign up with your details but instead of waiting for an invite you get instant access, no hassle at all really. In addition, with people across the world receiving emails about the beta in recent weeks the amount of users is bound to shoot up. Yet, if the user amount gets too high, they may switch back to the old system, although this is unlikely.

On a side note, hearing from some trusted sources the current beta will be the last and the final release could be at the end of April. Yet, some selected testers, who can be trusted enough not to leak the beta may receive a secret update, but I cannot reveal who these people are.

Windows Live Messenger 8.0.0566 is here!

Well, well well, as promised a new build (566) was released to all testers including invited people, to get a hot new insight into the upcoming Windows Live Messenger. Connect tester already received a similar build the other week but it was found to be buggy and some of the new GUI had some glitches. Well today, the build released had a nice tidy up of its room. A lot of annoying bugs have been fixed and the layout looks overall much smother than before. However, many people say it is bright and the borders unpredictably change.

Well, before I posted this, I was testing, looking for common bugs, and looking for new features. Things like pending request, when someone needs your permission to view your details has arrived (I find it highly annoying, but for some it is a nice touch) and when you delete a contact you get the option to delete from hotmail to. (But I use GMAIL and I get the same message)

The new build, is hard to explain, not much really has changed, best way is to download yourself and try it, but only people invited and connect testers can sign in of course, so if you don't want to check your email just download by the official link at the end of the post.

Enjoy the screenshots, I think they explain pretty much it; I have modified Windows Live Messenger with the updated A-Patch.

New Windows Live Messenger beta expected
Posted by absorbation on 22 Feb 2006 (1740 views)
The new beta of Windows Live Messenger has cheered up connect testers now they have a hot looking instant messenger with the old less buggy engine and new features. However, people who were invited have been left in the cold along with the old orange design. Well they will soon receive an update according to the live team, upgrading them to the exciting new features and bug fixes plus some extra stuff such as more integration with other Live services, improved sharing folders (yet again) and more virus protection.

However, there have been problems along the way ...
The roof came down on offices in Microsoft destroying a huge pipeline damaging many computers including that of the Messenger team. The source code was saved but coding has been harder as they are constantly being moved from under this and over that. Something like this may delay some progress.
