We tend to identify a program by the icon it uses. Windows and Apple logos are easy to spot from a distance, but things such as your browser, email client and media player probably register in your mind without you even noticing. Throughout their time icons are gradually updated, with the fad now being some form of glossy effect. Sometimes icons take a significant new appearance (who can remember when iTunes was green?).
Over at istartedsomething, Long has got hold of the new set of Windows Live Wave 3 icons. The new Messenger icon basically adds a fancy ribbon and gives the Messenger buddies more of a body shape. Check out the image below:

For any of you that care, I'm still not entirely sure where the Messenger Stuff butterfly came from, but our designer Shrbr integrated it from day one and it hasn't changed since.
