The Windows Live team blog has announced Messenger for Mac 8 is now out of beta.

The last public beta was released back in March, where video chatting was finally introduced. The feature experienced several technical difficulties during its development which has caused the program to be delayed beyond the scope of its traditional release timeframe.

Messenger for Mac does not contain the new social networking features introduced in Windows Live Messenger 2011.
