MessPatch Light updated

Rolando has done it, an update to MessPatch Light has been released for the new Windows Live Messenger Wave 3 beta. Release notes:

After almost a year of no updates, you can now get back in action with the new MessPatch Light: integrated into the website (for all of you popuphobic messers) and updated to work with the new beta (build 14.0.5027.908) released just a couple of days ago.

So what's new you ask?
- Updated to work with Windows Live Messenger 14.0.5027.908.
- Added "Remove partner links" option for versions 8.5.x and 9.0.x.
- Fixed "Disable Windows Live Spaces Integration" for all versions.

Big daddy Mess Patch is being impeded by some restrictions introduced in the new release, meanwhile you can get your patch on with the new MessPatch Light (also known as messy-poo;))

PS: As a side effect of the aforementioned "restrictions", MessPatch Light will not remove the advertisement banner from the contact list. The text advertisement in the conversation windows however, is unaffected.

A-Patch update for leaked Windows Live Messenger 9
Posted by absorbation on Tue 26 Aug 2008 (13:45 GMT) (2267 views)
Just a quick post here to let you know you can patch all the elements you don't like out of the M1 build of Windows Live Messenger 9 leaked a couple of days ago.

The new version is missing some features, due to the dramatic changes Windows Live Messenger 9 has created. It sure feels nice to remove all the advertisements, buttons, etc, you don't want to look at and that bloat up Messenger. Then again you probably get more out of the vast array of skins for Windows Live Messenger 8.5, I know I've already gone back to using Oil Slick.

Windows Live Installer released with new Messenger beta

In follow up to yesterday's news, Windows Live Installer has been released and comes with the installation of Windows Live Messenger 8.5 beta 2 (build 8.5.1288).

So what's new? Well nothing really noticeable, just bug fixes according to the offical Messenger blog. Nevertheless, the build is just really to attract users to the new installer as there is no separate download at the moment, unless you download the files below. Here are some facts about the update:

  • Windows Live Installer has come under very heavy criticism, all comments tend to be negative, I believe a lot of this comes down to the speed and ease of use of the program.
  • It is not compatible with x64 editions of Windows. Unless you try this hack.
  • A-Patch and Mess Patch have been updated to work with the new Windows Live Messenger beta.
  • Messenger Plus! Live is fully compatible with the new build according to creator Patchou.

Personally, beta is still bloated and annoying to use for me. All my settings have been modified and I'm finding more and more annoying little bugs. If this is what the finished product will be I'm sticking with 8.1. I'm sure these will be addressed by the final release though.

New generation of patching: MessPatch Light
Posted by absorbation on Fri 17 Aug 2007 (17:16 GMT) (2011 views)
Patching Messenger is a must for me, I hate bloat and Messenger is really easy to customise by changing its resources. MessPatch Light is a great new way to patch Messenger, despite its lack of features, limitations on Windows Vista, and people's lack of trust for Java applications having so much access, you cannot deny this will make patching Messenger easier than ever.

It basically allows you to patch Messenger from your web browser, it is simple, easy and saves time. It may be early days yet, but it does have potential. Unfortunately mess.be have failed to provide a permalink to the website, but it is on the left hand side of the home page.

A-Patch is back in action!

Forget what I said about Mess Patch, forget it all I tell you! The news of Windows Live Messenger 8.5 pushed A-Patch to release an update, not only as the current patch that works with the new leaked beta, but the patch that helps you visualise the changes you can make to Messenger.

The 'Preview Area' feature, currently in beta shows you exactly what options you are applying to Messenger in real time i.e. you change an option and you can see exactly what it does. The feature is not perfect, but damn it is a great idea and when fully ready will make A-Patch the king of the patches all over again.

A-Patch is a fantastic patch, but in the past year it has lacked in new features. This shows it is coming back and I can't wait for new options to customise Messenger.

So if you use Windows Live Messenger 8.5 check it out, you can edit Messenger to how you like and try out this cool new feature.

Change Messenger's design using Mess Patch
Posted by absorbation on Wed 23 May 2007 (19:11 GMT) (2923 views)
I love to customise Windows Live Messenger. I'm not into fancy addons (I only use Messenger Plus! Live with no scripts), but I love to clean Messenger before I even dare use it. Why? It is far too bloated.

I also don't use skins, they just seem to have lost that edge that used to attract me (I was really into them when MSN Messenger was popular). All I use is a patch to remove unwanted features from the design of the program. That patch used to be A-Patch, but this week I have used Mess Patch, and I think I prefer it.

I've been using A-Patch for a while now, and I've missed the huge update Mess Patch experienced. It now contains a variety of new features, and some of them are very interesting and unique. One thing that caught my eye was the Translucent Dashboard feature, which basically gives the dark top of Windows Live Messenger a new clean look (see image at the bottom of this post).

I can still change all my favourite options (with one or two exceptions) and there is even a setting to bring back an old feature MSN Messenger used to have: Thumbed display pictures on the contact list! That feature was H-O-T, I remember it received a lot of attention when it was first integrated, in fact I still don't know why it was removed.

I suggest giving Mess Patch a go, it has become so much sleeker and more customisable recently, and it now beats A-Patch in my view.
